Who I am. What I do.
My name is Mary O’Donovan and I am a Family Celebrant and Registered Solemniser. I specialise in personal wedding, baby-naming and vow renewal ceremonies. I am a member of the Earth Spiritualist Foundation and have had extensive training.
I must be honest with you and admit I’m a hopeless romantic and I absolutely LOVE my job as a Celebrant. It’s just such an honour and a privilege to be in the presence of pure love and joy.
I am committed to creating and delivering a warm, personal ceremony that reflects the couple’s lives and relationship. I can supply samples and offer help with readings and vows if needed. Your ceremony can include choices from many beautiful enhancements, such as unity candle, sand ceremony, Celtic handfasting and ring warming. You have complete freedom of choice when it comes to content and inclusion of spiritual or religious references, etc. – whatever is important to you. I will work with you to craft your own unique love story to share with you and your guests.
I’ve been in the wedding industry for 14 years as a videographer and editor in our family business. This experience has given me a great insight into what couples want and, indeed, don’t want on their day. This insight led me to become a celebrant. I am always so excited to deliver a ceremony that reflects a couple’s love and uniqueness and to help create the perfect atmosphere for a wonderful day which you will remember for the rest of your lives.

We booked Mary last year for our ceremony in July. From the moment we first contacted Mary she was nothing but helpful. Any questions we had were answered immediately and if we needed any guidance for the ceremony, Mary had the answers. No ask was too big or too small. We met Mary about a month before the ceremony for a coffee and a chat. Mary instantly put us at ease as we chatted about the ceremony she had prepared for us. We told Mary how we met etc. and she wrote our “love story”. It was so personal to us with a little humour added in. Mary delivered the ceremony beautifully on the day. We are really and truly blown away by how special Mary made our son Oisín's naming ceremony. We knew we wanted to welcome Oisín to the family officially but didn't want a christening and were a bit unsure about how to go about an alternative - until Mary came on the scene to guide us through the whole process! Between making suggestions about poetry and ceremony enhancements to include, and listening to our every whimsical idea, Mary created a beautiful and truly personal ceremony that could not have been more perfect. Everyone who attended was blown away, with many people not really being sure what to expect from a naming ceremony. The whole day felt so natural and relaxed, and all of our guests felt included by the flower petal ceremony suggested by Mary. 'Mary married my husband and I June 28th of this year! Due to unforeseen circumstances we decided not to get married in the church but at our hotel The Armada. I contacted Mary at 4.30pm the evening before, explained the circumstance and without hesitation (even though she was away with family) she agreed to help us out. I met Mary a few weeks before the night itself to arrange it as my husband Dave had no idea what was in store! Usually Mary has input from both parties to make the ceremony as personal as possible for all involved. In this case she was flying blind and she absolutely rose to the challenge. She suggested lots of little touches that worked really well considering the groom had no clue. ! On the night itself she was nearly as excited as me to see his face. Being an LGBT+ couple and although I don’t like to admit was anxious at times when reaching out to vendors as there is a fear what if they won’t take part if they don’t agree with our life choices but all Mary saw was 2 people in love. Organising a wedding during COVID was stressful at times but with Mary there was never any issues. She answered all our questions in a timely manner and was at the end of a video call if needed. We met Mary at a wedding fair at the Inn at Dromoland. I instantly felt such a warm and loving feeling from her and I wanted her to do our ceremony. Mary was exceptional and we would recommend her services to any couples who are looking for a Celebrant for their wedding. Mary made the whole process so easy, we live in the States and planning a wedding abroad was very stressful, but Mary put us at ease. She made our ceremony very personal, special and unique. It was filled with some of the classic wedding ceremony traditions while incorporating some of the new modern traditions. When we got to rehearsal we realized we never bought candles for our ceremony, that was no problem for Marry she was able to help us out with candles for our ceremony while reassuring us that it was no problem from her end. Mary wrote up a beautiful ceremony for us and then helped us incorporate our family including, a poem by my young cousin, a special memorial poem by my aunt, a song sung by my mom and more… She worked directly with us to provide her readings while also ensuring we were happy with the proposed write up and accepted any (very) small changes we requested. At the end of our ceremony Mary performed the traditional Celtic handfasting ceremony, which was so beautiful and will be remembered by us forever. We would recommend Mary to local folks as well as folks looking to plan a wedding abroad!
